Easy Target

Easy target
Slow to react
But a reaction will happen

After enough hits
It will fall apart
Sometimes a slow crumble
Others a loud explosion
But something will happen

The target tries to move
Tries to doge
But gets hit anyway

That was easy
So the aim is focused again
And the hits keep coming

Faster
Harder
Until the target is done
Destroyed

One

IMG_5765

I am one
One among many
Mostly blending in
But still here

I am one
One in a sea of similar
But we are not the same
Similar but not the same

I am one
One blooming where I was planted
Standing as tall as I can stand
Learning to sway with the others in the wind

But maybe one
At least one set of eyes
Will see
Will appreciate the differences
Will see what this one has to offer

Making Change

The quiet anticipation
Of the chattering rush
The crowded spaces
And sweaty faces
The feeling is lush

Finding the delicate balance
Between hard work and pain
Moving forward
Making change

Invisible

It is almost as if
I cease to exist
No one thinks
No one remembers

No one checks
No how are you
No responses
Just nothing

I watch as people look through me
I wonder how close they will come
When walking by almost tripping over me
Not seeing the flesh and blood right in front of their face

So I will hide in my bubble
I will continue to be unseen
Until something changes
Until someone cares

I will be very quiet
I will appreciate the beauty around me
Listening to the song of the birds
Watching the flowers sway in the breeze

I will wait
Until someone decides
To seek me out

Dear Gray Hair

Dear Gray Hair,

Why are you there
When did you come
And why did you bring a friend

Is it the wisdom
That comes with finally
Finding your mate

Or is it the stress
That comes
When you plan a wedding

Was it the worry
That all of those details
Would fall apart
Or I’d trip down the aisle
Or sink into the grass

I’ve carefully studied
To make sure you are gray
And not just very very blonde

Why gray hair
Have you planted yourself
Right there

Right there
In the middle of my head
For all to see

Including me
A constant reminder
I’m not getting younger

I’m almost halfway through my thirties
But still I had hope
Maybe I would be safe

I continue to search
To see if you’ve invited anyone else to the party
But not too much because I don’t want to worry
And I don’t want to dye my hair

So I ask
Dear Gray Hair,
Please take your time
Let me get used to you
Before you take over

Leap

Lily Pad Orange County, California

Lily Pad Orange County, California

Have you ever thought
About what it takes
To perform a leap?

As a dancer
I spent many hours
Perfecting this action

This action
That a child
Gives little thought to

Oh look a rock in a stream
Then another rock
I think I can make it to the next one without getting wet

A frog leaps
When it does not swim
An instinctive action
From lily pad to lily pad

But as one gets older
This simple action becomes more work
There is more thought involved
More hesitation

If I leap to that rock
I could twist my ankle when I land
I could fall in the water
I could get bitten by a snake

Sometimes it’s important
To think before you leap
But sometimes our thoughts get in the way
Our risks become fewer

Careful consideration
Sometimes prevents falls
But sometimes those falls
Help us to see where we need to be

Can’t

Don’t tell me you can’t
Because I know that you can
I can see the potential
That you cannot see for yourself

I can see the strength
That lies deep inside of you
The habits you can let go of
To harness that strength

The muscles that are overpowered
By your stress
And lack of confidence
They are holding you back

I can see them let go
Of the stress
Take hold of your confidence
And find the strength for yourself

I can see the you
I know you can be
But you let the word can’t
Get in your way

So let go
Of all of those things
Let your mind think in different ways
And find the power you house within your body

Magic Sky

The subtle change
From light to dark
The the magic of the sky
Changing colors
Right before our eyes

Something that happens everyday
But not always seen
Not always breathtaking

Sometimes hidden by clouds
Sometimes not witnessed
Because of sleep
Or work

Then there are those magic days
When everything aligns
And the sky shows off
Painting the glass buildings
Tinting the clouds
Changing everything
Until it’s dark

JOY

295_516619922717_6240_n

Joyful
Joyful
All the laughter
Who even remembers what was so funny

But I do remember the laughter
I do remember that night
The beer someone spilled on my new white shirt
And my brand new champagne colored satin shoes

I had to borrow your shirt
And something was so funny we cried
And Rachel captured this
Our joy

All the magnificent moments
We have shared since this one
Both of us in each other’s weddings
You with a brand new baby

The ups and downs of life and relationships
Trying to figure out where life was taking us
And where we wanted to go

We finally found where we needed to be
Even though we are miles apart
We still have that joy

Dear Former Friend

You popped up in my Facebook memories
This has happened a few times lately
The memory is usually from the beginning of finding each other again
I feel nostalgic for our friendship

I miss the version of you I knew
I miss the funny person you were
I miss the good times we had
Before the bitterness set in

I wonder if you saw it too
I wonder if you care
I wonder if I was just a blip on your radar
If we were actually friends
